St. Charles is a census-designated place and planned new town in Charles County, Maryland, United States, immediately south of Waldorf. As of the 2000 census, the population of the CDP was 33,379. It was started in 1965 and is halfway through completion as outlined in its master plan.

St. Charles is located at 383620N, 765457W (38.605540, -76.915785)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 30.9 km (11.9 mi). 30.6 km (11.8 mi) of it is land and 0.3 km (0.1 mi) of it (1.09%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 33,379 people, 11,567 households, and 8,628 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,092.2/km (2,829.3/mi). There were 12,064 housing units at an average density of 394.7/km (1,022.6/mi). The racial makeup of the CDP was 64.27% White, 28.67% African American, 0.70% Native American, 2.41% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 1.05% from other races, and 2.82% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.34% of the population.
